BEN MCCARTHY
Director, Trainer, Assessor, Mentor
Ben McCarthy, a proud Gumbaynggirr man from Coffs Coast NSW, is a dedicated father and stepfather. With experience in horticulture, construction, and Indigenous youth mentoring, he has spent 15 years in mining and is now a Production Supervisor at Thiess. Ben is passionate about increasing Indigenous representation in leadership roles.

I’m proud Ghungalu woman from Rockhampton, mother and grandmother, with a strong family focus. For seven years, I’ve worked in mining on Country, starting through the Sisters in Mining Program and mentoring new candidates. Before that, I spent 10 years mentoring Indigenous students in education

I’m a proud Ghungalu woman who started in mining in 2019 through the Sister in Mining program. With my sister’s mentorship and support, I’ve grown confident and skilled in my role. Now with I AIM, I’m dedicated to empowering Indigenous workers and driving positive change in the mining industry.

As a proud Ghungalu woman and mother, I returned home to care for my family and reconnect with my culture. Now with I AIM, I share what I’ve learned from my Elders to keep our stories alive for future generations

ROHAN HOOLIHAN

I’m Rohan Hoolihan, a Gugu Badhun and Ghungalu man from Townsville. I will be one of the Trainer, Assessor & Mentors for IAIM. I have over 10 years’ experience in the mining industry. I believe my expertise and knowledge will help our NTI and students have a smooth transition into mining employment. The I AIM team will help them with their journey, we will be with them every step of the way.

We believe to succeed in the Energy & Resource Sector, young First Nations People need a culturally led and culturally informed mentoring program, that equips our First Nations People with the right skills and mentoring that will ensure the success of their employment within the Energy & Resource Sector. NTI – New To Industry Traineeship Program
The purpose of the I AIM Business Program initiative is to increase representation of First Nations people in the Mining Industry. With the right help, support, knowledge, and understanding of how the mining world operates, and with a keen interest, I AIM is here to help you every step of the way not only assist in securing full-time employment but also in retaining it. Our I AIM Mentors will be joining you along with your mining journey.
I AIM is dedicated to constructing a better future for the community, empowering them to create a brighter tomorrow.
The 12-month traineeship is to kick start a career path for Indigenous people in and around Queensland with permanent employment in the Mining industry.
At IAIM we know how to walk with our people, our community to prepare our First Nations people for employment because we know the mentoring and the connection to culture, they require to succeed in the workplace.
Our team of trainers/mentors have over 25 years’ experience working in the Energy & Resource Sector, the Education Sector and more relevant, have lived and worked on country and are connected with culture.

School Graduates Program
Announcing I AIM – Indigenous Australians In Mining For School Graduates For Apprenticeships & Traineeships in the Mining Industry.
This program is for the Indigenous students who are wanting to pursue a career in the Mines and who are interested & keen on learning the life of a miner. Students who would like to gain work experience in the mines while still studying at school that will eventually lead to a full time apprenticeship or traineeship in Rear Dump Truck Operators.
I AIM will be introduced to the year 11 & year 12 students at the start of their Senior year to get them prepared & work ready. Each student will be profiled individually and will receive one-on-one follow up visits and will continue the one-on-one until they feel competent in their field.
I AIM mentors will conduct school visits to the local high schools throughout Central Queensland to deliver the presentations with students in their senior phase – Year 11 & 12.
Cultural programs, inductions, learning & development are important for all organisations.
At IAIM we know how to walk with our people but more importantly we know how to walk in two worlds and create a way to “Walk Together”.
Our cultural programs can be contextualised for any organisation to meet the cultural needs of your personnel.
The C.U.P – Cultural Understanding Program
Why should an organisation have a Cultural Understanding Program a part of their business?
It’s very important to acknowledge Cultural Awareness within the organisation as it encourages to identify the many diverse backgrounds working in the community. It also breaks down the Cultural barriers, strengthens relationships & having a greater understanding of Cultural appropriateness. And it ensures a safe working environment for all colleagues, clients and visitors.
I AIM is closing the gap between Indigenous and non-Iindigenous Australians and Strengthen the relationships for the employer and employees and bringing Cultural Awareness to Everyone in a safe work environment.
I AIM will be breaking The Cultural Understanding into 3 parts.
